Barry D. Kowitt is one of the founding partners at Unger & Kowitt. He believes there are many things about the system that's unfair, and he loves helping people fight back.

In this blog, he shares with you his views on the traffic ticket system, as well as providing traffic ticket solutions that really work, no gimmicks. Hint: saying "my car doesn't go that fast" isn't going to cut it.

Red Light Camera Tickets May Be Thing of the Past

Red Light Camera Blog www.ungerandkowitt.com/blog

According to today's Sun-Sentinel headlines, cities are re-thinking their use of Red light cameras.  "The whole think has been a disaster," said one Broward County Commissioner.

Wow, I couldn't have said it better myself.  As we've noted here on our previous blogs, these cameras are about nothing more than generating revenue for the local municipalities.  These city commissioners were told a bunch of lies by a company in Arizona about how much revenue they could expect to generate and in these dire economic times, they jumped at the offer without considering the whole picture.

The reason the Red light cameras aren't generating the money they hoped for is because traffic ticket law firms are leading the fight against these tickets, and it's costing them too much money to defend them.  They violate numerous constitutional laws and they thought no one would bother to fight these tickets.

I'm happy to report that they were wrong.  You can beat a red light camera ticket in court, if the judge that is presiding over them is willing to listen and apply the laws currently on the books.  One problem with these red light camera tickets is that they force husbands and wives to testify against each other.  There is something called the "spousal priviledge" that protects people from having to do that, but don't tell the red light camera companies or your local politicians.  They would prefer people just roll over and take these excessive "taxes" that masquerade as public safety.

Even the Sun-Sentinal article states "data remain split on whether the cameras save lives."  The simple fact is if you want these cameras to come down, don't just pay them and remember to fight back.  Together we can make a difference on our roadways.
